Explore Google's New AI Mode Features: Model Switcher & Personalized Greetings (2026)

Get ready for an exciting upgrade! Google's AI Mode homepage is getting a fresh new look and some handy features to enhance your experience. But here's the kicker: it's a controversial move that might just spark some lively debates!

First off, Google has replaced the simple 'Meet AI Mode' greeting with a personalized touch. Now, when you visit the desktop web version, you'll be greeted with a friendly 'Hi [Your Name], what's on your mind today?' accompanied by a fun gradient animation. It's a small change, but it adds a personal feel to your AI interaction. This is similar to the Gemini app's approach, which asks, 'Where should we start?'

For Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, the 'plus' menu has some exciting additions. Along with the existing options like Upload image, Upload file, and Create Images, you now have a 'Models' picker. This gives you the choice between 'Auto' and 'Thinking (3 Pro)', with the latter indicating that responses might take a bit longer, represented by a stopwatch icon.

But here's where it gets interesting: the previous picker/dropdown menu still exists in the top-left corner, providing descriptions for each option. 'Auto' adapts to your needs, while 'Thinking with 3 Pro' offers complex reasoning and generative layouts. It's a subtle difference, but it gives you more control over the AI's behavior.

And this is the part most people miss: the AI Mode history side panel now has a 'Search' feature for your Recent threads. This makes it easier to find and continue previous conversations. Unfortunately, these updates are not yet available on mobile apps, so you'll have to stick to your desktop for now.

As for mobile users, there are no updates on Android or iOS today. However, iOS users can now easily access their history in the top-left corner of the Google app. It's a small change, but it's a step towards a more seamless experience.

So, what do you think about these updates? Are they a step in the right direction, or do they raise some concerns? Leave your thoughts in the comments! We'd love to hear your opinions on Google's AI Mode evolution.
