At the JAFF Market, director Angga Dwimas Sasongko revealed his vision for 'Queen of Malacca', a contemporary fantasy epic inspired by the rich cultures of Southeast Asia. Sasongko emphasized that this isn't your typical period piece; it's a modern, imaginative journey into a world with its own unique mythology, languages, and cultural nuances.
Action Meets Fantasy
But here's where it gets controversial... Sasongko blends the traditional Indonesian martial art of silat with influences from Hong Kong action cinema. He's teamed up with rising choreographer Reza Hilman and veteran stunt coordinator Chan Man Ching to create a hybrid action language that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Chan, with his extensive experience from Hong Kong to Hollywood, promises to deliver a fresh and unique style for this film.
An Ensemble of Talents
The cast, led by Claresta Taufan, Faris Fadjar, Lutesha, Ganindra Bimo, Dion Wiyoko, Jihane Almira, and Wulan Guritno, spoke about the physical demands of the project.
