Rangers Football Club has officially announced the acquisition of Andreas Skov Olsen on a loan deal from VfL Wolfsburg, extending until the conclusion of the season with an option to secure his services permanently this summer, pending international clearance and the approval of a work permit.
The 26-year-old winger from Denmark has made a name for himself, earning 40 caps for his national team and accumulating over 200 appearances in professional European football throughout his career.
Skov Olsen's journey began within the youth setup of FC Nordsjælland, where he played alongside fellow player Oliver Antman in the Danish Superliga, impressively scoring more than 20 goals in just 41 matches. His stellar performance caught the attention of Serie A clubs, leading to his transfer to Bologna in 2019, where he made 70 appearances over three seasons in Italy.
On the international front, he debuted for Denmark in October 2020 and was selected for the national squad that reached the semi-finals of the European Championships in 2021. In January 2022, Club Brugge secured Skov Olsen's talents, and he quickly made an impact by helping the team clinch the league title in his inaugural season. Notably, he scored the crucial goal in the Belgian Super Cup against Gent in July.
His UEFA Champions League debut followed shortly after, as he assisted the winning goal in a narrow 1-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen during his first match in the prestigious tournament, then added to his tally with a goal in a dominant 4-0 win against Porto in the group stages.
The 2023/24 season proved to be exceptionally productive for the Danish international, as he racked up an impressive 38 goal contributions for both club and country, playing a significant role in Club Brugge's reclaiming of the Belgian Pro League title. After a standout first half of the season, where he contributed to 12 goals in just 19 league matches, Skov Olsen transitioned to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Rangers, Skov Olsen shared, "I’m absolutely thrilled. I’m really happy that this is finalized, and I can’t wait to meet all my teammates, the fans, and everyone at the club. Rangers is the most prestigious club in Scotland, boasting a rich history and deep traditions. The moment I learned of the opportunity to join, I had no reservations. I am eager to contribute to our success and enjoy my time here."
Rangers’ Head Coach, Danny Röhl, commented on the signing: "We are genuinely excited to welcome Andreas to our club. He is a proven performer at the highest level, bringing valuable experience from competitive environments both domestically and in Europe. His presence will significantly enhance our attacking options, and he arrives eager to embrace this new challenge and seize the opportunities that lie ahead."
