The Pittsburgh Steelers are in dire need of a reliable wide receiver, and a potential solution could be found in the form of Xavier Legette, a former first-round pick of the Carolina Panthers. The Steelers have been struggling to find a consistent number two option at wideout since trading Diontae Johnson after the 2023 season. Calvin Austin III has been their primary backup for the past two years, but his performance has been inconsistent. The Steelers are expected to draft a wide receiver in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, and with the event taking place in Pittsburgh, they have the opportunity to secure their next franchise receiver. However, Legette, who was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, may be available and could benefit from a change of scenery. In two seasons, Legette has only made 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns, with seven drops in his rookie year. His quarterback, Bryce Young, had a poor season, and he was in a less-than-ideal wide receiver room with only Adam Thielen as a true threat. The Panthers drafted Tetairoa McMillan, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, to bolster their depleted receiver room, but Legette's role in the offense diminished as the season progressed. The Steelers could benefit from Legette's size and speed, and with Head Coach Mike McCarthy and Offensive Coordinator Brian Angelichio, he would be in good hands. This move would be a low-risk one for the Steelers, as they wouldn't have to give up any premium draft capital. They can afford to send one later-round pick away for a receiver in need of a fresh start.
