Uganda Cranes: The Road to AFCON 2025 - A Nation's Pride (2026)

Get ready, Uganda! The roar of the crowd is about to get even louder as fans gear up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). A thrilling campaign has just been launched, promising to unite the nation in support of the Uganda Cranes! This initiative, spearheaded by Nile Special, MTN Uganda, MultiChoice Uganda, and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), aims to ignite the passion of fans both at home and abroad.

The centerpiece of this campaign? A specially designed Uganda Cranes jersey, unveiled under the inspiring theme: “One Nation, One Team, One Beer.” This jersey isn't just apparel; it's a symbol of unity, designed to connect Ugandans as their national team prepares to take on the continent's best. The AFCON tournament kicks off on December 21st in Morocco, and the anticipation is building!

At the launch event held at Nile Breweries head offices in Luzira, Brand Manager Eric Malinga emphasized the vital role of the supporters, recognizing them as the team's crucial “12th player.” He highlighted the importance of fans standing strong with the Cranes as they represent Uganda.

But here's where it gets exciting: this campaign is bringing the AFCON experience directly to the fans! For those unable to travel to Morocco, watch parties will be organized across various regions of the country. Fans can participate in penalty challenges, with the winners proudly taking home the coveted fans’ jersey. The jersey itself is a work of art, featuring emblems representing all regions of Uganda, a powerful symbol of national unity.

MultiChoice Uganda, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, is also deeply involved. They've reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the tournament to every Ugandan home. As Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Uganda, stated, AFCON is more than just a tournament; it's a cultural event that brings people together, and they are dedicated to ensuring fans experience every match in the best possible way.

Uganda's return to the AFCON finals is highly anticipated, especially after missing out on the 2021 and 2023 editions. Their best performance to date was in 1978, where they finished as runners-up. The 2025 tournament will mark Uganda’s eighth appearance at AFCON.

The tournament opens with hosts Morocco facing Comoros. Uganda, however, has been drawn into Group C, considered one of the toughest groups, alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and neighbors Tanzania. And this is the part most people miss... The Cranes will begin their campaign on December 23rd against Tunisia.

Former Uganda Cranes defender Hassan Wasswa Mawanda is optimistic, backing the team to perform under head coach Paul Put. He believes a positive start in the opening match will be key to building momentum.

Here's a quick rundown of what to expect:

  • Africa Cup of Nations 2025 (AFCON): December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026
  • Group C: Uganda, Tanzania, Tunisia, Nigeria
  • Uganda’s Group C Fixtures:
    • December 23: Tunisia vs. Uganda
